ISLA MUJERES, MEXICO

Isla Mujeres is a 5-mile long island located 8 miles off the coast of Cancun. Far different from heavily commercialized Cancun, the island is a slow-paced tropical paradise featuring sandy white beaches and cobalt blue water. Beachfront bars have swings and hammocks instead of bar stools. The island is safe and easy to get around by foot or by golf cart.

The Haphazard is located in the quaint downtown, just steps from outstanding local bars and restaurants. You can have fresh made guacamole and ceviche, sitting at a table in the sand, in sight of the boat.

Fishing
The fishing is nothing short of world class. It is typical to troll through schools of sailfish feeding on baitballs and to have up to 50 shots at sails in a day. Over 20 caught in a day is not uncommon. Wahoo are frequently a part of the day's catch. Bottom fishing for grouper and snapper is an excellent option for those wanting fresh fish for dinner. There is a restaurant located directly on the dock which will cook your fish and serve it with a cold margarita.

The Pace
Except for the fishing, the pace is relaxed. The run to the fishing grounds is short, so hours are flexible. Getting up at 4:00 AM is not a pre-requisite. Lunch and beverages are provided on the boat.

The Experience
Isla Mujeres is a great destination for families or just fishermen. Either way, the trip will be remembered as much for the overall experience as for the once-in-a-lifetime catches of sailfish.

Directions
Isla Mujerres is a short ferry ride from easily accessible Cancun. More specific directions can be found at www.IslaMujeres.net

Lodging
We recommend Ixchell Beach or Villa Rolandi for high end lodging. The Ixchell is walking distance from the boat. There are many excellent moderately priced hotel options. Lodging options are described at www.IslaMujerres.net

Weather
The weather is excellent in Isla Mujeres during the winter / spring period. We are able to go almost every day. Many days are breezy and customers should be prepared for a variety of sea conditions In a 61' boat, the weather rarely impeded fishability.
